“Slider”- Russell Marsland and Mick Dalla-Vee

This was probably the first most memorable thing I ever did in my studio.

It was in early 2000 with my old G-4 Mac with my first Pro Tools rig… a DIGI-001.

Earlier, Russell Marsland had asked me if I’d like to join him in representing ‘The Double Whammy’ guitar system at the Nashville NAMM Show that year and I thought it would be a kick…so I said yes. He procured me a ‘Double Whammy bass’ (The E&A string on one whammy bar and the D&G on another). After I had it for a couple of days he came over with his Double Whammy guitar (3&3 whammy system) with the idea that we might do something musically and record it to show off the capabilities of the Double Whammy system on each instrument.

I threw up a drum loop and started playing a pattern while pulling harmonics and bending them with the D&G whammy.

Russell asked for a reverb setting. I gave him one he liked and we started jamming out this piece. At the end we played it back and liked it. The next day I threw a key pad on it, mixed it and I sent it to Russell.
Considering it was pretty much done right off the floor and a first pass mix, it sounds pretty good… and, as always, Russell’s guitar playing is extraordinary.
